THE BATTLE OF BROOKLYN COMES BACK TO GREEN-WOOD

Originally built as a rural cemetery in 1838, Green-Wood was founded in Battle Hill, which is known as the landmark of the Battle of Long Island and it is the highest point in Brooklyn. This National Historical Landmark played a key role on August 27th, 1776 during the Battle of Long Island, which is also known as the Battle of Brooklyn.

In the American Revolutionary War, the Battle of Long Island was the first major battle to take place after United States declared independence on July 4th, 1776. Commanded by General George Washington and fought by the Continental Army against the British troops, which were commanded by General William Howe.
